5 (More) Games That Deserve Sequels
Last week Jordan posted a two part series about the 10 Games That Deserve Sequels. Well, I couldn’t help but notice that a bunch of games that I think deserve sequels weren’t on there. So, here are 5 more games that deserve sequels.
Phantom Dust (Xbox)
Phantom Dust wasn’t played by a whole lot of people due to the fact that it was a budget title on the original Xbox and that is a huge shame. The game revolved around a post-apocalyptic world where people have been forced to live underground. Your main character is discovered under mysterious circumstances and while it takes a while for anything to happen story-wise, the gameplay stays awesome throughout.
Each mission has you going on the surface, collecting spells and battling enemies. Each spell was mapped to a face button and they went from ranged attacks that could hit anyone hiding far above you, to close up melee attacks that did major damage. The graphics were great, the spells were awesome, the game featured online play, and allowed the use of your own songs to play throughout. If we were to see a sequel, the game could go crazy with the spells, feature a very robust online multiplayer and it could feature even more destructible environments.
Advent Rising (Xbox)
I was one of the few people who actually enjoyed Advent Rising. I loved the story about having aliens kill all but two humans (you and a woman) because humans are fabled to have strong, supernatural powers. Well, you develop those powers pretty early on and even though there were tons of issues to do with glitching and such, I loved the game up until the credits rolled… And then I beat it.
Yes, in one of the strangest things in video game history, the ending of the game takes place after the credits. I’ll never forget fighting that final boss in Advent Rising , not only for the strange circumstances I fought it under, but also for the fact that it was extremely difficult. If we were to see a sequel, it could play out sort of like Mass Effect and have humans re-populated, fighting against lots of alien races.
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (DS)
Days of Ruin is easily the worst game in the Advance Wars series. It took all of the happiness out and replaced it with a desolate, depressing story that seemed to hate human beings. They also took out any reason to play the game past the campaign, removing all the fun extras seen in Dual Strike. Days of Ruin definitely needs a sequel so they can fix all of the problems it featured.
Luckily, this one is the likeliest to happen. Intelligent Systems finished up with the 3DS eShop game Pushmo so it would only make sense if Nintendo set them to work on a 3DS version of Advance Wars. Fingers crossed!
Timesplitters: Future Perfect (GC, PS2, Xbox)
The reason Timesplitters: Future Perfect deserves a sequel is simple. It is a first person shooter that doesn’t focus on real-life war, opting for a more light-hearted approach. In a world with so many serious FPSs, a new Timesplitters game could appeal to all of those people who don’t want to worry about the latest nuclear disaster. Not to mention the fact that the multiplayer has always been some of the best in shooter history, featuring so many insane modes and characters.
Come on Crytek, make Timesplitters 4: Time To Split!
Psi-Ops: The MindGate Conspiracy (PS2, Xbox)
Out of every single one of these games, Psi-Ops: The MindGate Conspiracy is the only one that left us with a gigantic cliffhanger. After beating the very tough and memorable final boss, the game ends with the main character suddenly getting his memory back and saying that he ‘remembers everything,’ cue credits! Seriously? A sequel could answer all of the questions the first game left and introduce some awesome powers along the way.
So, there are my 5 games that I think deserve sequels. Expect more of these lists in the future, because we’ll never stop hoping for sequels to our favourite games.
