10 Most Anticipated Playstation Vita Games of 2012

With the launch of the Playstation Vita just a few weeks away, the anticipation is growing. We created this list to show the 10 Playstation Vita games that we are looking forward to not just at launch, but throughout the year.

10. Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (Q1 2012)

Fulfilling our RPG needs at the Playstation Vita launch, Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention looks to offer the same zany gameplay of past iterations, but in a more manageable, handheld setting. Since it is a remake of the PS3 game, Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice, it doesn’t earn a high spot on the list. This doesn’t mean, however, that we won’t spend hundreds of hours playing the game.

9. Lumines: Electric Symphony (February 15th)

The gameplay hasn’t changed much since the very first game back on the PSP, but who cares? The Lumines series has always been a great puzzle game and Electric Symphony will easily continue that tradition. Although the touch screen controls will see very little use, the soundtrack and easy to play, hard to master puzzle action will have us coming back for more.

8. Modnation Racers: Road Trip (February 15th)

With the exclusion of online play, Modnation Racers: Road Trip has admittedly dropped a few places. The whole point of the game on PS3 was to be a full multiplayer experience so you could show off all your different creations. While we do realize that this was done to help reduce the load times seen in the console version, it isn’t something we can easily forgive. Other than that though, we still want to get our hands on it to create some tracks using the really cool rear touch pad options.

7. Little Big Planet Vita (Fall 2012)

The Little Big Planet Vita series has always felt like it belonged on a handheld because of the 2D nature of the game. While the PSP version was good, the PSV version will be awesome. It takes full advantage of every new feature introduced with the Playstation Vita and it looks like so much fun. As long as they include very robust online sharing, Little Big Planet Vita will be a powerhouse.

6. Escape Plan (February 15th)

Escape Plan looks like it could be the surprise hit at launch. It is a fully touch screen based, PSN puzzler that is presented entirely in black and white. From the videos we’ve seen, Escape Plan will be one to remember and the very low asking price means that day one adopters should have no trouble experiencing it.

5. Army Corps of Hell (February 15th)

In what can be best described as a more mature version of Pikmin, Army Corps of Hell is a game where you command a whole squadron of little creatures and use them to attack a lot of enemies. While it may not be as graphically impressive as a lot of the other Vita games, it looks like so much fun!

4. Sound Shapes (Spring 2012)

Sound Shapes is a game that could end up being really bad, but it doesn’t mean that we aren’t looking forward to it. Basically, you traverse a 2D world and everything you touch works together to create some very awesome music. It remains to be seen if this will get boring over time, but who cares? It’s innovative and we want to play it.

3. Super Stardust Delta (February 15th)

Super Stardust HD on the PSN is one of those titles like Geometry Wars. It is a simple twin stick shooter but you can never tear yourself away from it. This sequel looks to take the action to a whole new level and the addition of portability will keep us glued to our Vita’s for hours upon hours.

2. Resistance: Burning Skies (Fall 2012)

Resistance: Retribution on the PSP was a revelation for handheld FPS’s and Burning Skies looks to do the same. As long as they can keep the weapons, enemies and story fresh, Burning Skies will be a huge success and could transform the franchise from a major console series into a major handheld series.

1. Uncharted: Golden Abyss (February 15th)

Although we weren’t as thrilled about Uncharted 3 as we would have hoped, Golden Abyss looks to change all that. The game looks simply amazing on the Playstation Vita screen, the uses of the touch screen and touch pad look very fun, and while the aiming mechanic may take a little getting used to, this looks like THE Playstation Vita to get not only at launch, but all year.

So, there are our 10 most anticipated Playstation Vita games of 2012. With the launch of the Vita on February 15th, we will have reviews of the launch games very soon so keep checking back.
